Newborn :: Cadence

March 29, 2017

Being a newborn photographer isn’t for the faint of heart.  These little ones fight to have their photo taken like no other. Well most of them do – kinda like 2 year olds. This sweet little girl was a dream come true and was her sister. Wish other babies would take notes!

I always have a plan for each session and hope we get the time to pull it all off.  There are some tips and tricks that every parent is armed with, but newborns are in control right from the moment they are born.  So when I get a family as calm and cooperative as this one I take full advantage.  This is one of those times I remember why I love photographing newborns!  And it kinda makes me want one of my own….just don’t tell my husband!

Newborn :: Jace

April 28, 2016

I said bring me all your newborn babies…… and poof they appear.

There is that moment your client tells you they love pirates. The following moment your head starts spinning because you love them too!  It makes me happy when people have ideas but trust my creativity to make it awesome.  This session was no excuse.  I was born for this.  Actually, I was born on talk like a pirate day so it was only fitting.

Then there’s that moment you realize you have the perfect vendor (Flirty Bambini) to make a pirate costume for a newborn.  Seriously can’t believe it all came together and so easy.  Baby Pirates are all sorts of amazing and this little guy nailed it!!!

So excited to have met this sweet family and can’t wait to see baby Jace grow!

Maternity Session :: Ora

February 19, 2015

Maternity sessions mean something new to me now that I have been on the other side of the lens.

Ora and I met at the hospital when both of us were pregnant.  There were no seats (shocker) but when we did find one it was next to her and her husband.  Probably the best way we could have spent the next 5 plus hours.  Needless to say there was nothing they could do to help either of us.  So from a giant waste of a day came a new friendship.  So totally worth it.

Fall has never been one of my favourite seasons but this year the leaves were insane colours and I couldn’t resist.  Someone had to do a session amongst the vivid colours.  I managed to convince Ora and her family to come out on a damp morning and hit up the local trails.  Nothing like the smell of wet leaves in the air.

It took me a while to post these but am truly excited to share them.  I would wish her all the best in the coming of the baby but I’m too late to the game.  She had another little girl and she’s just as cute and sweet as the first.  Now to convince them to come out in the snow!  J/k  We had too much fun during this session that the only thing to top it would be a guys vs girls snow ball fight.  Fair fight – Andre is used to being outnumbered!

Newborn :: Chase

February 19, 2015

Newborn photography is quickly becoming one of my favourite things to shoot.  When this family contacted me about booking their session I immediately fell in love.  So easy going yet had a plan.  Just my type!  That and they wanted to do a sports theme.  Always my favourite. That and fairy tales for the girls.  Even though I’m not a Canadiens fan, I must say these are some of my fave images.  Not only was he the perfect baby but we had the cutest props. Have you seen those little gloves?!?!!? Who knew such an adorable thing existed.  Guess who’s going shopping next week for some mini hockey gloves?!?!  I foresee many more hockey shoots in my future.  Now if only I could get some Leafs fans in the studio!

Couldn’t have been happier with the way the day went or the way the final images came out.  Just love when things work out so well!  I’m sure this little guy will be a huge sports fan one day whether he likes it or not!  Let’s just hope he’s a hockey fan.

Can’t wait to see him grow up.  Congrats guys!

Family Session :: Baby Kian

February 11, 2015

Family sessions when a baby is around the 3 month mark are usually some of my favourites.  The baby has a personality, parents are in a groove and everyone’s past the craziness that comes with a newborn.  Kian is no different.  He has little faces that he makes and the more time I spent with these guys the more I began to recognize them.  Something about little ones developing who they are just makes me smile.  Newborns don’t need a lot and are relatively straight forward. The older they get the more they keep us on our toes but the more fun the session becomes. You never know when your going to get that look or a smile. You can’t predict how it will go or the final images.  Guess I should have known there would be a ton of good ones from this session since this family is ridiculously cute and sweet.  To date, I probably had the hardest time yet choosing their images.  Can’t wait to see this little one grow.

Maternity :: Talia and Henry

October 24, 2014

Maternity sessions can be pretty limiting if you know what I mean.  Anyone that has had a baby bump will know all that comes with it.  That being said, Talia is a kick ass woman who didn’t let any of that stand in her way. We basically hiked in Taylor Creek Park in Toronto for approx 45 minutes.  Not to mention it was raining.  I could have done without that but the fact that we were having so much fun made it seem less of a pain.  Actually time flew by because we were killing ourselves joking.  Not to give her all the credit.  Henry could pull a joke out of his back pocket at he drop of a dime!  I could go into it but none of it would make sense to anyone not there.  Inside jokes.

Anyway, this baby is going to have two wicked parents and probably an amazing sense of humour.  Can’t wait to meet him.

Oh and that airplane that you see…it will make sense when you see the newborn session.  I promise. Just keep thinking its part of the nursery decor.  So excited to meet this little guy!

Newborn :: Harrison

October 23, 2014

Newborn Harrison came into the studio hungry as a bear.  I know in life, men eat more than women, but this little guy had an appetite like no other!  Guess he’s bulking up for baseball season.  When I spoke to his mom about her session she said she wanted to tie baseball into some of the shots.  My mind pretty much exploded.  In the photography world we talk about ideal clients and the ones we actually get.  These guys were the real deal.  They had a plan but totally open to my ideas and suggestions. I can’t tell you how important all this is to getting the most from your session.  They came prepared, including lots of milk for the little one, and we hit a home run.  HAHAHA see what I did there?!?!  I still have the ability to amuse myself with jokes.  Guess that’s one thing i didn’t lose when I had my own baby!  She got my brain and my eyelashes but not my humour.  Not yet anyway!

Can’t wait to see this little guy grow up.  Who knows, maybe he will play for the Jays in 20 years!

Baby Clara

August 4, 2013

I don’t know what it is about baby girls – they just look so cuddly and cute.  Baby Clara was absolutely a doll during her newborn photography session and made me fall in love with her within minutes.  Clara is the first born so I’m sure she will get all the spoiling she deserves.  When I spoke to her parents they wanted to do something different.  Something unique and that was personal to them.  Cue the most beautiful quilt ever.  Made by an aunt with love, this was by far my favourite backdrop to date.  So many soft colours and patterns!  I’ve already asked my mom to take a quilting class but the negotiations are still ongoing.

When I suggested we do some photographs and incorporate books, mom was all over it.  Turns out dad is math teacher and just so happened to have a text book around.  I know Clara looks all cozy but she did put up a fight.  Do you blame her?!?!?!?! Math is at the bottom of almost everyone’s favourite subject list.  That being said, it’s no wonder she quickly feel asleep for us.  No offence to all you number crunchers!

Can’t wait to see her grow up.  Congrats to both of you!

Jen

Little Sophia

July 15, 2013

Children’s photography is never easy.  Yes Sophia is ridiculously cute, yes she’s well behaved, but man alive she has a mind of her own.  We tried everything to get her to wear the hat.  “Trust us you will look sooooo cute” we said but no….she knew it was a trick to get her to wear it.  I’m pretty sure she threw that thing off her head 20 or 30 times before we got enough shots.  You have to admit it was really adorable and totally worth the fuss.

When I initially talked to Laura I knew that she would be game for something really out there.  A little less traditional and a lot more unique.  In comes the tea party suggestion.  This is something I had seen on Pinterest in which a photographer took two little girls, dressed them up, put them in a field on some vintage furniture and captured their little tea party.  It’s still on my bucket list of things to shoot but I had an idea for Laura, Stefan and Sophia.  With agreement from Laura, we volunteered Stefan as Sophias tea party guest of honour.  Him and the stuffed pig that is.

Donned in tattoos, a boa and pearls this tea party was like no other.  A sweet cup of tea turned into banging tea cups and tossing cakes around.  This was not your typical ‘High Tea’!

Take a peek at what might be my favorite shoot to date!

Lorysa and Sean

April 24, 2013

I ran into Lorysa at a charity event called Fifty Shades of Skin, which helps raise money for prostate cancer.  It was an amazing evening at Revival Lounge in downtown Toronto, in which details stay between the hundreds of women who attended…Kind of like what happens in Vegas.  We started chatting and she mentioned doing a photo shoot with her boyfriend Sean.  This is something I wish I had done more of.  Moving forward my goal is to do one every year with my husband around the time of our anniversary.

Lorysa and I tossed ideas around for the session as it was winter and quite frankly…neither of us are winter people.  Snow just seemed like the worst possible fit.  I would say it was about a month later that I saw an email in my inbox and I swear it had a light bulb above it.  Why not do the session in their home and incorporate some of the things that make them such a perfect couple.  Baking, playing games, watching movies and working on their dance moves are all a part of what makes them happy.

It was such a fun session from start to finish and I would love to do more like this.  Happy couples make for some fun times!
