Maternity Session :: Peony Farm

June 29, 2020

York Region Maternity Photographer

I’m obsessed with nature. Maybe not so much the bug aspect, but the greens and florals. I love when the sun sneaks through the trees and gives that golden glow. The way the darks are brightened in just the right way to highlight features. I literally can’t handle a beautiful sundown without my camera in my hand. I also can’t handle not knowing what my maternity clients are having! Boy or Girl? I’m such a Pinterest mom I had to know lol.

With all the covid stuff happening and being trapped indoors for so long I had a lot of time to look for creative inspiration. No chance to put it to use…until now. I bought this peacock chair for Mother’s Day Mini’s and didn’t get to use it. As upset as I am about missing out on that, I embraced the extra time to make the idea that much better. Turns out it all worked out and I have an amazing set for families.

A huge thank you to Janet at Country Cut Flowers for letting me use her gorgeous property. The peony field was the perfect spot for this mama and for my new baby (aka the Peacock). This chair will be available for mini’s this summer and fall and as an add on to your regular session. So excited!

Maternity :: Sandy & Chris

March 23, 2015

Maternity photography is always a lot of fun. I don’t believe that whole ‘you glow when your pregnant’ thing people all say.  If you’ve been pregnant you may know exactly what I mean!  But do believe beautiful people glow.  That was the case for this entire session.  Editing these images made me smile because in a short time this little family will be come just a bit bigger.  Pretty sure all of that made this session one of my easiest to date.  Ok maybe because these two are some of my favourite people.  But the sun light was working in our favour, the snow wasn’t cold, there was a warm breeze and the hills weren’t too high.  Nothing like watching a pregnant woman go up hill!  (I say that but I was just as out of breath)

I know I have said it before but photography has really given me a new outlook on everything.  I appreciate the beauty where I used to overlook it.  I am not outdoorsy but am in love with the old trees, the snow, the sun shining through the trees.  I actually see it now.  How long it took for the trees to grow that tall. How much effort is put into preserving the trails. And I actually see how beautiful a pregnant woman is.  How crazy is it that there is a baby in there! Sometimes we just need to stop and enjoy it all.  If your ever in Stouffville check out Eldred King Woodlands.  It’s definitely one I’ll be going back to!

Baby number two is due in May and I literally can’t wait. I’m putting my money on a girl but these two refuse to find out.  Kudos for being able to wait but I personally think your nuts!  Who in their right mind wants to torture themselves for 9 months waiting to find out if they can buy the cute tutu or little nikes.  Honestly, you guys are killing me!

Maternity Session :: Ora

February 19, 2015

Maternity sessions mean something new to me now that I have been on the other side of the lens.

Ora and I met at the hospital when both of us were pregnant.  There were no seats (shocker) but when we did find one it was next to her and her husband.  Probably the best way we could have spent the next 5 plus hours.  Needless to say there was nothing they could do to help either of us.  So from a giant waste of a day came a new friendship.  So totally worth it.

Fall has never been one of my favourite seasons but this year the leaves were insane colours and I couldn’t resist.  Someone had to do a session amongst the vivid colours.  I managed to convince Ora and her family to come out on a damp morning and hit up the local trails.  Nothing like the smell of wet leaves in the air.

It took me a while to post these but am truly excited to share them.  I would wish her all the best in the coming of the baby but I’m too late to the game.  She had another little girl and she’s just as cute and sweet as the first.  Now to convince them to come out in the snow!  J/k  We had too much fun during this session that the only thing to top it would be a guys vs girls snow ball fight.  Fair fight – Andre is used to being outnumbered!

Prsa Maternity Shoot

September 11, 2012

I love the fact that Sandy is going to be a mom.  She loves her nieces and nephews like her own so I can only image what this little one is going to feel.  This baby not only has an amazing mom but a pretty cool dad.

When they asked if I would do their maternity shoot, it was an obvious answer.  It’s the one thing I could offer them cause we all know I will NEVER change that child’s diaper.  I will always be there to watch your baby, but you better hope it doesn’t have to go to the washroom.  Then again my lovely assistant might come in handy.  Speaking of which, I brought Terry along to be my assistant.  To carry the balloons, hold my camera bag, and amuse Chris while we did some solo shots of Sandy.  Apparently he didn’t read the assistants manual where it says stay out of the cameras view.  You’ll see….Just keep scrolling.  Needless to say he made us laugh.  Nothing like a man lurking in the forest holding pink and blue balloons.  Not sketchy at all.  He wasn’t alone.  Chris just couldn’t resist shoving a balloon up his shirt and pretending he was pregnant too.  We’ve been friends for years so none of this comes as a surprise to us girls.  However, the families in the park…. ya….you can image.  AWKWARD!

If you are wondering why there are pink and blue balloons, they have decided to wait until the baby is born to find out whether it’s a boy or girl.  So old school but so fantastic.  My guess – a boy!

As we rounded the corner to head back to the car, we ran into a little girl who’s eyes just about popped out of her head at the sight of the balloons.  Perfect ending to a perfect shoot.  Can’t wait to meet your little one.

Sherri and Al’s Maternity Shoot

June 17, 2012

In just a couple weeks Sherri and Al will be adding a baby boy to their family and big sister Marissa was on hand to add that ‘ridiculously cute’ factor to this maternity shoot.  The day started out raining and threatened to cancel the shoot but Sherri was prepared with umbrellas and big smiles.  Guess that’s all we needed as the sun came out just long enough to capture some really sweet moments.

Little Marissa is going to be an amazing big sister.  She wanted to help us set up the props, wanted to be in all the photos and even kissed her mom’s belly.  So cute I just wanted to squish her.

Congrats guys! and can’t wait to meet the new addition.

Sunshine and a Baby Bump :: Maternity Session

April 8, 2012

Maternity sessions are among my favourite things to shoot.

As we usher in the warm weather, everything starts to grow.  The plants, the grass, and the baby bumps.  Seemed fitting to do this session in a park that had an area called the ‘Celebration Forest’.  Asha is a HUGE nature lover and with her Native heritage, it couldn’t be more fitting.

Celebrating the upcoming birth of their first child we wanted to capture the beginning of growth in as many ways as possible.  With the grass peeking through, buds on the trees, and the sun shinning, we were able to enhance the natural beauty of their relationship and the one they are about to have with the upcoming birth of Kai.

I know what your thinking, this is pretty mushy for me.  Asha has a way of making everything beautiful….even her husbands antics.  You can all thank me for saving you from the ‘moon’ shot….. Sooooo close to making the blog but this is a family friendly site.  Sorry Corey!

All the best in this next week . Can’t wait to meet baby Kai!
