Cake Smash :: Chloe

July 18, 2021

Cake smash sessions bring out all sorts of emotions in us moms. They are freaking cute, a sign your little one is a year old, messy and even a tad stressful.  They are always fun and even more so when your little one dives right in. You would be shocked how many kids don’t jump at the chance to fill their faces with cake. Maybe the texture, maybe the audience….maybe the sugar.  BUT when a little one sees it as the opportunity of a lifetime there is nothing like it!

First birthdays are always fun. Whether you choose to do a family session or cake smash session, they are always special. The first year goes by so fast and is the perfect time to capture this time in your little ones life. I think that’s the one thing we never get until we are in the moment. How fast they grow and change. You see them every day and it doesn’t hit you until there is a milestone like this.  Whether you choose to do a cake smash or something more traditional, don’t miss this epic time in your little ones life!

Thanks to The Flower Merchant for the florals and Sweet B’s for the cake!

Milestone :: Savannah

First Birthday Session

Milestone sessions are great for babies one and under. They capture moments we are so proud of, and as a mom, these images remind me of so many moments around this time in my kids lives. It’s great to see how much our children have grown in a year.. These sessions are great for 1st birthday’s and can be a great alternative to the typical cake smash. Whether you opt to use one of the studio outfits or bring your own, these are an amazing way to document your little one.

As a photographer, I love the little feet and hands, the little lashes and all the faces they make.  Even if the set up is similar, each family is sure to get unique images as no two children are alike. We are able to capture their mood, their adorable little features and ultimatly the little person they are becoming. Who doesn’t love the crazy faces our kids make.

This first birthday session was just that. Lots of personality and lots of gorgeous images!

Rib Smash Session :: Jace

April 20, 2017

Rib Smash Session – Richmond Hill Photographer

Cake’s for babies he said.

Just kidding. He can’t talk so the real story is my dislike for cake smash sessions and his mom’s desire for something fun to celebrate his 1st birthday produced this little gem of a session.

A little BBQ sauce (ok….ALOT of sauce), some ribs, beans, and some corn makes for a pretty freaking cute ‘cake smash’ session.

Don’t get me wrong, cake smash sessions are adorable, but I see so many of them in my industry that it’s hard to be creative. I’ve decided, several times over, not to offer these but when a friend or really loyal client asks, I just can’t say no.  My only rule is we have to do something crazy and different.  Something that hasn’t been done 300o times.

So just like that, a ton of ribs from Big Bone BBQ arrived at my front door with a ridiculously cute baby. Forget the ribs I just want to eat him!

Happy 1st Birthday you saucy little man!

Family :: Charlie’s First Birthday Session

July 10, 2015

Family photography can have it’s challenges. I know several photographers who have sworn off it altogether.  I have a soft spot for families though. You get everything in one session! Parents to do cute couples pics, kids to do some fun ones and then everyone together. Those can be the toughest for people but in my eyes no matter what is happening they are probably the most genuine.  Parents laughing at the little ones (or giving them a ‘certain’ look), kids with toys in their mouth or their huge toothless grin…. I could go on. As much as we all want the perfect family portrait with everyone looking at the camera and smiling, it’s those more candid ones that make it on the walls and on the holiday cards.

This is Charlie’s first birthday.  How can someone only 1 be so adorable. Honestly,  I could have eaten him!  Not going to lie, he has language all his own that could rival my daughters so I felt a little extra attached to these guys!  I’m pretty sure if we put the two of them in a room it would be nothing short of amazing to watch.  Hey if there are successful reality shows about people who hunt ducks then these two should have no trouble getting a tv deal.

Max’s First Birthday

September 9, 2012

First birthday’s can make a kid smile!

When we think of birthdays, we think of the person who’s getting older.  Not the parents of the birthday boy or girl.  They have just as much to celebrate as the one blowing the candles out.  Through my conversations with Fiona, I realized this first birthday shoot had more meaning behind it.

Back in 2006, Fiona was diagnosed with breast cancer and starting a family was put on hold.  Something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.  Today she has Max.  She kicked cancers butt and now has the perfect family.

To celebrate everything that Sept. 2 means to this family, we did a shoot that incorporated all elements.  Including a giant number 1 sign that Max painted with his body.  Not only is he freaking cute…..he’s talented too!

Happy 1st Birthday Max (Fiona and Ryan)!  Hope the day was full of joy and yummy cake!
